Oct. 24 to 26: “Army Musical - Mine.” Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Korean Military, a talented group of soldiers and popular Korean stars who are currently fulfilling their mandatory military service are staging a musical.
“Mine,” Korea’s first army musical, refers literally to a land mine. But is also a metaphor for the barriers and obstacles created between family members and the army.
The story revolves around what happened on a fateful day when a young lieutenant threw himself in harm’s way to save one of his men. Through the tragic accident, a father and his son grow closer together as they discover what they really value in life.
The show stars 40 soldiers who are currently serving in the military. Among the cast are singer and actor Ahn Chil-hyun, also known as Kangta, and the rapper Yang Dong-geun.
Over 400 hopefuls auditioned in June for the other singing and acting parts.
Musical star Lee Byung-jun, who isn’t serving in the army, plays the main role of Lee Jong-myung.
Tickets range from 30,000 won to 40,000 won.
The musical starts at 8 p.m. on Friday, 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

강타 양동근 재희, 軍 창작뮤지컬로 팬들 만난다 [2009-01-24 10:20:45]

창군 이래 최초로 제작된 軍 창작 뮤지컬 '마인(MINE)'이 오는 1월 30일부터 3월 1일까지 과천 시민회관과 고양 어울림극장에서 앙코르 공연을 개최한다.
지난해 10월부터 두 달간 서울, 부산, 광주 등 전국 6개 도시 순회공연을 펼쳐 관람객들과 군 내부에서 좋은 평가를 받아 올 초, 수도권 지역에서의 연장 공연이 결정된 것이다.
이번 앙코르 공연에는 지난해와 마찬가지로 연예인 출신으로 현재 군 복무중인 안칠현 일병(예명 강타, 제8보병사단 수색대대)과 양동근 이병(제3보병사단 군악대) 외에도 지난해 8월 입대한 배우 이현균 이병(예명 재희, 2탄약창 1탄약중대)이 참여한다.
지난 1월 5일부터 연습에 참여한 이현균 이병은 “실력있는 친구들과 함께 생활하고, 연습하면서 많이 배우고 있다”며 “뒤늦게 합류한 만큼 남들보다 노력하여 인생의 첫 성공적인 뮤지컬 도전기를 쓰고 싶다”고 전했다.
기획단계에서부터 ‘군의 획기적인 시도’로 많은 이들의 관심을 받았던 뮤지컬 <마인MINE>을 제작한 육군본부는 지난 12월 초 2008한국PR대상까지 거머쥐며 문화예술을 활용한 군의 성공적인 문화마케팅 전략을 대외적으로 인정받았다. 또한 지난 공연에서 실시한 관객설문조사에서도 약 70% 이상의 관객들이 ‘군과 예술의 만남’을 고무적인 것으로 평가했다.
한편, 육군본부에서는 정훈 교육 차원에서 군 장병들의 뮤지컬 관람을 권장하기 위해 휴가 1일 추가 보장 제도를 마련하였다. 이는 공연 기간 내에 휴가를 나가는 육군 장병들 중 ‘마인’을 관람하면, 이를 교육 시간으로 인정하여 휴가를 하루 더 보장받는 제도이다.
휴가 예정인 장병들에 한하여 각 소속 부대를 통해 사전 신청을 받게 되며, 동반 1인까지 무료 관람이 가능하다. 기획 프로듀서인 이영노 중령(육군본부 정책홍보실)은 “지난해 인기리에 공연을 마쳤지만 아직도 제대로 된 공연을 만나보지 못한 장병들이 많다”며 “이번 공연을 통해 보다 많은 장병이 문화 경험은 물론 군인으로서의 자부심을 느꼈으면 좋겠다”고 말했다.
