Interview with Jae Hee : Two images in one person.

Jae Hee started to be noticed from movie 3-Iron by director Kim Ki Duk. After that, he became more famous with drama Delightful Girl Chun Hyang of Hong sister in 2005.

After failing with drama Witch Yoo Hee in 2007, Jae Hee has disappeared for a while. In April 2008, he comes back with a new drama 1 Mom 3 Dads of KBS2. This interview was done at the filming site of 1 Mom 3 Dads.

Reporter: Long time to see you at the drama’s filming site?

JH: Yes. After Witch Yoo Hee finished, I started to preside the program X-Boy Friend. Therefore, I did not have much free time. After taking a rest, I come back with a new drama. Many people said that they’re happy to see me again.

Reporter: How do you feel as an MC?

JH: It’s very difficult, even harder than acting. At first, I said that I would be a MC, people watched me with worry. Just focus on acting, why did I have to do MC? However, I felt this job would give me more experience.

Reporter: In 1 Mom 3 Dads, are you playing as a flirting guy?

JH: It’s not exactly a flirting guy. He is an artist who has much attraction. Although he sit silence in on place, girls will come to him anyway. His movement toward those girls is that not refuse when coming, not resist when leaving. It may be an easy going character (smile). This is a special role that can perform many things.

Reporter: Do you have the amative sentiment like that character in the drama?

JH: Absolutely not. When I fall in love with a girl, I will be faithful to her. Of course sometimes I will have different expression like looking at another girl and thinking “she is good”. I think most men are alike. It is not the amative sentiment, is it?

Reporter: Is this the kind of character that girls adore much?

JH: Maybe. First thing is his fashion. Whatever he wears, he always is an idol person. The next thing is optimistic. Girls feel comfortable when stay beside him. I think this is the attracted point of this character.

Reporter: Do you need the over-acting skill?

JH: I don’t need it. Before start to filming, we decided that although this is a comic drama, we don’t need to use the over-acting skill; we will try our best to describe the characters lively and naturally that will make audience feel comfortable.



Reporter: In this drama, you and Jo Hyun Jae, Eugene, Shin Sung Rok play as the main roles. Main roles are double comparing to other dramas. Therefore, are you jealous about less or more acting’s land with others? How do you feel your acting’s land will take?

JH: Before filming, we decided not to argue about this issue. The rating of appearing is not important. If my character only appears in one second but it’s important for the content, I will play it. Although I am a main character, it’s just one of 4 main roles. It’s not much pressure when not only me responsible for the drama.

I like dramas that have many main roles. I think our dramas usually have just 2 main characters, and they’re hard to responsible for the whole film. Subordinate characters in Japanese drama and US have their own story and their effects are not less than the main characters. 1 Mom 3 Dads can be one of those works. In this drama, the cooperation of whole group is the most important. If people know how to co-act with each other effectively, every person could be shined too.

Reporter: You have never cooperated with Jo Hyun Jae, Shin Sung Rok, and Eugene. How do you make things comfortable for all?

JH: At first, we usually came out to have a drink together. Sung Rok, Hyun Jae, and I have the same level of drinking wine. Eugene doesn’t drink but she came with us very often and made the environment very excited. I think she is pretty.

Reporter: Telling the truth, before meeting Jae Hee, I thought you were a deep and silent person. Maybe your impression in movie 3-Iron is very excellent. How do you think about this?

JH: One interesting thing is my images in dramas and movies are totally different. In movie, I usually play as a deep and strong character; in drama, I always appear as a funny and optimistic character. Therefore, characters in the scripts sending to me have differences. If you ask me what image I like the most, I will answer that I like both of them. Being an actor, I only want to focus on my acting to bring good character to audience.



Reporter: Playing drama is good, but many fans are waiting for you to come back to movie.

JH: I have played many movies not long ago. However, because of many reasons, they still can’t be introduced to audience. After passing this event, I realized that Korean movie area still exist many obstacles. I feel sorry about that. However, I will continue to play movie. I have chosen a right script for me. Be waiting for me.

Reporter: If suddenly you have a child as in 1 Mom 3 Dads, what should you do?

JH: I have never thought about that. But telling the truth, I will feel very uncomfortable. It’s not because I don’t like children, but because suddenly I have a child while not preparing anything for it that would make me difficulties. Being a father, you have many responsibilities and have to do something for your children. In fact, if you’re in that situation, you’ll feel the same thing, right?

Reporter: Drama With Yoo Hee was not successful as the expectation and left behind many regrets. Do you have any pressure on the rating of this time?

JH: I don’t have any pressure. I have never had any pressure because of ratings. High or low ratings are not because of any people but god. I just try my best with my character. I hope audience watch this drama with equal and comfortable mind. Don’t criticize too much on the acting of specific actors or on the script. Let’s watch it with full observation and you will get more exciting. One thing I want to tell to the audience that is not “I hope you will help me to make the high ratings” but “You should think this drama is an excited film and watch it with your joyful mind.

Reporter: According to Jae Hee, what is acting?

JH: The way I’m going and will go on that is very long. This is my career and the work I want to do. I can’t define acting in just one sentence. In short, I have bet many things on acting career. Therefore, I have to go with it to the end.

Jae Hee get 9 stitches while filming his current KBS series Three Dads, One Mom on May 11

While at work filming his current KBS series Three Dads, One Mom on May 11, Jae Hee was injured and required nine stitches. Ironically, the scene he was shooting took place in a hospital.

In the scene, Kyung Tae (Shin Sung Rok’s character) is stabbed and Jae Hee’s character rushes him to the emergency room. While waiting for his friend’s surgery results, he becomes overcome with anger and strikes a wall in frustration.

Apparently Jae Hee was a little too immersed in his work and hit the wall with too much force, “tearing his hand.” Luckily, he didn’t have to travel far to receive emergency treatment, and received nine stitches.

But rather than taking time off for his injury, Jae Hee continued with the shoot. Neither is this the first time he’s displayed his serious work ethic; previously, he’d injured an arm in a bicycle chase scene (lol) and continued filming despite it.

Jae Hee’s always seemed like an actor who takes his job extremely seriously (despite some unfortunate role selections), so I’m not too surprised to hear this, although nine stitches? In one hand?
